The reduction of the labia minora has become a frequent question in surgery consultations at our clinic. It is an intimate surgery which is necessary for esthetic reasons and for the comfort of women. Dr. Caroline Osman will explain a new technique (the wedge technique) developed to reduce the labia minora with a natural shape, while maintaining and increasing sexual sensation for the patient. Labiaplasty is done under local anesthesia as one-day surgery and you can leave afterwards; no recovery time is needed, the patient is only advised to avoid certain exercises.
- Labia minora enlargement can be congenital or acquired by chronic irritation, exogenous androgenic hormones and stretching with weights.
- This can cause inflammation, poor hygiene and pain during sexual intercourse or intermittent urinary self-catheterization.
- Aesthetically, asymmetrical or enlarged labia minora causes low sexual self-esteem and pain when wearing tight pants.
